Welcome to The Bear’s Easel, Lafayette’s official art blog! Here, we celebrate the creativity, voice, and imagination of our students through the lens of visual arts. Just like a bear explores its surroundings with curiosity and strength, our young artists explore big ideas, connect their art with other subjects, experiment with materials, and express who they are through art. Follow along to see works-in-progress, finished masterpieces, students in action, and collaborative projects.

School-wide International Dot Day Celebration!
Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration, inspired by the children’s book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. It is observed annually on September 15th.
Dot Day encourages people of all ages to make their mark and see where it takes them- a central message from The Dot, which tells the story of a girl named Vashti who discovers her artistic potential starting with just a single dot on a piece of paper.
Key Themes:
Creativity: Everyone is encouraged to create something, starting with a simple dot, this could be through art, writing, music, or other forms.
Confidence: It emphasizes taking the first step, even if you're unsure of your abilities.
Encouragement: The story highlights the importance of encouraging others to express themselves.
Remember, Dot Day can be celebrated every day in our own way!
Although Dot Day at Lafayette will look a little different this year- students will be able to engage in Dot Day inspired activities throughout the school day on September 15th and have independent creative opportunities at recess.
"Getting to Know You" - First Week of 25/26 School Year
Lafayette's 2nd-5th grade had a fantastic first week of art! The 3rd-5th graders created abstract art by experimenting with different art materials to create lines, shapes and colors that represent them. They then shared their artwork with one another to build on our classroom community.
